"When I found out I was expecting; the father and I had just separated, and I was in a pretty bad place emotionally. I actually made an appointment to terminate my pregnancy, but once I arrived at the clinic I could not go through with it. It was hard realizing that I was about to be a single parent and that my life was about to change completely.
Two months into my pregnancy I found out about Life Choices (through trusty Google), and made an appointment for confirmation. When I first saw my little peanut on the screen was a moment that literally took my breath away. I was more than excited to begin this new chapter in my life. The individuals were so caring and genuine, and I agreed to come back for the BRIDGES and Empowerment meetings. That is when I met Ms. Shamiah. She was such a positive person. She instantly made me feel at home at Life Choices. She helped me get into the spiritual aspect of my life; when I needed it the most. All of the presenters and presentations at Empowerment meetings were helpful, but I distinctly remember a birthing presentation by a nurse from Baptist Memorial Hospital and the verse she tied into her speech…
Being a mother has been a huge joy. I believe I am one of the few who actually enjoyed the late night/early morning feedings and changes. Having a little one with a beautiful smile and contagious laugh is the best feeling ever. Nothing is greater than experiencing motherhood. Life after baby has been different of course, but I am still attending school and working full-time. My family and support team helps me tremendously with Ashton. I truly appreciate the staff at Life Choices, because they helped me at a time when I made my biggest life choice.
