Mentor Sessions + Motherhood

This is one of my favorite sessions + here’s why… it started as a mentor session with this beautiful momma you see in these photos + then turned into a mini Motherhood Session. One of my most adored progressions as a business owner has been mentoring + pouring into other photographers who are eager to learn, grow + dive deeper into bettering themselves as business women.

I’ll never forget the feeling of overwhelm, confusion, frustration, comparison… honestly, the list goes on when I first stepped into the pool of photography. All I wanted to do was feel more confident behind the camera, know exactly what I was doing on the business side + succeed, make a name for myself. But for whatever reason everything was hush-hush. Asking a photographer what preset they use or what location they shot at or what their camera settings on an image were unheard of. I hated the feeling. It was really a world of every man for themselves. If I wanted to learn I had to do some deep google searching or try, fail, try again.

Fast-forward five years + I was well on my feet, but again, only after facing trial + error, late nights, money spent + money wasted. It was no easy feat, but I’m proud to have built the company I have + knew that I wanted to change things moving forward. I knew that if a photographer reached out to ask a question I’d give them the best most honest answer I could because heck, starting out is so hard + I wanted to help. Like truly help. Plus, it feels so good to help others, I suppose that’s the ennegram two in me.

For this session Morgan + I focused on working with 35mm film, practiced metering + the importance on waiting for the shot. After we were done shooting a roll of film I then took over + photographed her with her son for a sweet Motherhood Session as I talked through what I was doing so that she could get an idea of what I think about during a shoot.

I have a true passion for equipping motherhood + family photographers, especially those that are “new-to-the-scene” + feeling all the intimidation of starting out, to create the work they dream of + build a photography business that aligns with their own vision + values. The SECRET is out!!

The Launch of Kyle Kelley Programs

Today is a very exciting (+ a tad nerve-wracking) day because I'm finally sharing quite possibly my biggest announcement yet!! The third tier of KKP will be launching in the new year: Kyle Kelley PROGRAMS!!!

As you know I have been working on online education for quite some time now, but here's a brief back story. Just when I thought the timing to create was right, COVID hit + having the stay-at-home order in place I was pretty much unable to put any work toward these courses. Slowly as life started to go back to “normal” I got back into the swing of things, but something always felt off with what I was working on. And then… we moved. More adversity, more changes, more delays, more frustration. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so launching something I wasn't fully confident in wasn't an option.

As the courses sat on the back burner, one more change was headed my way. What I thought was going to be an online course or two evolved + it all happened at a hair appointment (I'll explain more of this later)! But suddenly after this final change, everything felt right.

You see, I didn't want to have just another online course. I didn't want to create something that would be a huge, unattainable investment. I didn't want to produce something where an eager student couldn't reach out to follow up on something they felt lost or confused on. I wanted to create something different + offer real change. So, Kyle Kelley Programs was born + in January 2022 I will be launching two memberships.

The Big Camera Membership will be the first program to launch + was built for moms, bloggers/influencers, aspiring photographers + anyone interested in learning how to use their DSLR (or “big”) camera. The second program is for motherhood + newborn photographers where we'll focus on all things business, client communication, session flow + so much more.

The best part is that it's all at your fingertips for a monthly rate. You can join when you want + cancel your membership when you feel like you've gotten what you need. A Sweet Little Miss | In-Home Newborn Session on Film | Kyle Kelley Photography | Milwaukee Newborn Photographer

It’s been exactly one year since I blogged my very first film session. It’s crazy to think that I’ve been working with film cameras for a little over two years + there’s no stopping me now!! This is the direction KKP is continuing on + I hope to one day only be working with film as my medium.

It’s always nerve-wracking as a creative to put yourself out there with a new idea or new way of working. There’s no telling how people will adjust to the changes I make with my business, whether in a positive light or with criticism, so it has been overwhelmingly joyful to have such a kind reaction to working with film. I can understand why clients may be wary of choosing a film photographer to capture their family, especially with the energetic toddlers, but that is something I love most about using film while shooting. I have to truly get the moment locked in so that your image is crisp + in focus. So, when working with my film camera I’ve enjoyed getting to see how parents love on their children while waiting for me to snap the perfect shot! It makes the session all the more magical + intimate!

Speaking of new business ideas, this fall I’m excited to share some big news with this little KKP community! Of course, I’m nervous as all get out but very eager to show you what I’ve been working on!! STAY TUNED + while you hang around, enjoy this sweet in-home session on film!!

Baby Brother Makes FOUR | Newborn Session on Film | Kyle Kelley Photography | Milwaukee Newborn Photographer

It’s been a little bit since my last blog post because…well, summer + the BIG move!! This session was one of my final ones while living in Memphis + boy, was it a great one!! This family means a lot to me + my family, some of our dearest friends, so documenting yet another session for them was an absolute honor!! I’ll never stop saying this, but getting the chance to document families as they grow through the years is one of the greatest joys with this job!! It means the world when I’m chosen as the lucky photographer to capture such beautiful milestones.

It was three years ago that I was behind the camera photographing big brother’s newborn session!! Documenting their newest arrival took me back because this little guy was a copy + paste of big brother!!
